School History
In 1927, St. Catherine's first school building was constructed on Highland Avenue in West Dundee, consisting of four classrooms with an enrollment of 65 students. Over the years, additional rooms were added to accommodate increased enrollment. In 1965, a new school was completed at its present site.
As the 90’s began, many changes came about at St. Catherine’s School. A complete religious and academic education is offered in Pre-K through 8th Grade. Approximately 285 students are now enrolled.
Our religious education program consists of daily sequential instruction, frequent opportunities to plan and participate in the liturgy, involvement in various service projects, and experience in living the Gospel message of love and service. Degreed, certified and dedicated teachers provide a solid foundation in basic academics, enhanced by courses in computer science, music, physical education, art appreciation, German and Spanish. Intramural sports are offered to students in grades 5-8; basketball, volleyball, cross country, cheerleading and poms, promote a healthy school spirit. Primary level students form the junior pom squad and cheer teams to victory!
Parents are actively involved by serving on the School Board, Home and School Association, Athletic Association and by assisting teachers. Through the efforts and support of parents, computers, library books and other resources have been purchased, cultural and educational programs brought to the students, in-service opportunities provided for teachers seeking new methods of teaching, and improvements to the school facilities have been made to enhance the learning environment.
