Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions for any parent. At St. Catherine’s we pride ourselves in our students receiving an excellent academic education while learning to be respectful and caring of all people. Growing in their understanding of the Catholic faith and giving back to others is one of our primary goals.
At St Catherine’s Catholic values are instilled in all aspects of our school. We have a rich faith-based environment which helps to promote strong morals and values within our students.
Academic excellence is paramount. Students are challenged at every grade level through thoughtful and well-designed lessons meeting the needs of all of our learners in small classroom settings.
Families feel a strong sense of community at St. Catherine’s. This strong sense of community promotes lasting friendships among students and families that last beyond the students’ years here at our school.
Administration, faculty and staff are extremely supportive and caring. They are genuinely interested in the students’ well-being and progress. Communication between school and home is excellent.
Extra-curricular activities are readily available for our students. Students are encouraged to take part in our strong athletic program which encourages good sportsmanship. In addition to athletics, students may participate in various activities such as band, STEM club, student council, NJHS, and art club to name a few.
In 1927, St. Catherine's first school building was constructed on Highland Avenue in West Dundee, consisting of four classrooms with an enrollment of 65 students. Over the years, additional rooms were added to accommodate increased enrollment. In 1965, a new school was completed at its present site.
As the 90’s began, many changes came about at St. Catherine’s School. A complete religious and academic education is offered in Pre-K through 8th Grade. Approximately 285 students are now enrolled.
Our religious education program consists of daily sequential instruction, frequent opportunities to plan and participate in the liturgy, involvement in various service projects, and experience in living the Gospel message of love and service. Degreed, certified and dedicated teachers provide a solid foundation in basic academics, enhanced by courses in computer science, music, physical education, art appreciation, and Spanish. Intramural sports are offered to students in grades 5-8; basketball, volleyball, cross country, cheerleading and poms, promote a healthy school spirit. Primary level students form the junior pom squad and cheer teams to victory!
Parents are actively involved by serving on the School Board, Home and School Association, Athletic Association and by assisting teachers. Through the efforts and support of parents, computers, library books and other resources have been purchased, cultural and educational programs brought to the students, in-service opportunities provided for teachers seeking new methods of teaching, and improvements to the school facilities have been made to enhance the learning environment.
